Do ADA guidelines affect my ramp?

ADA compliance is required for all commercial ramps built on business properties. The guidelines are in place to make sure the ramp is built in the safest possible way and allows people with mobility challenges to enter or exit any establishment.

How do I know if my ramp is safe?

The hallmarks of a safe ramp are a low angle slope, nonslip surface, high weight capacity, and handrails for non-portable ramps. Also checking to see if your ramp is ADA compliant can help your ramp be as safe as possible.

Are these safe for my business?

Not only are they safe for you and your customers, but can also bring in more business. Having an accessible ramp allows more patrons wheelchair bound or not to enter and exit in a safe manner.

How long can these units last?

It depends on how much usage you ramp gets; however, these devices are built to last for at least a couple of years after installation. After those years are up you more need some maintenance work or even repairs.

Couldn’t I just build one myself instead of hiring someone?

It may be possible, however it is a much safer option to have a professional do that since they have the knowledge and skillset to follow ADA laws and build a long lasting product.

Can my handicap ramp handle weather like rain and snow?

Most units do have some sort of protection from rain and snow. For example wooden ramps have a coating that prevents damage to the structure from weather and rot. Aluminum can withstand heavy snow and rain as well.

Ramps are usually assembled onsite and installed right then and there. The process can take several hours to a day to complete, however once complete you can use it right away.
